In 2008 nearly fifty of Europe's top
powerboat teams took part in "The Everest of Powerboat races" - racing over 1400 miles round the UK. And for some reason five of them decided to let a writer tag along...
For ten exhausting days
Derek Wynans blagged and begged his way round Britain, hopping from boat to boat to experience first-hand the Anguish & the Rapture of competing in one of the world's toughest
offshore endurance races. Somehow he survived -- and this book is his unique account.
Abused by guesthouse landladies in Wales, parrots in Newcastle and Race Officials
pretty much everywhere, Derek managed to bribe his way onto all manner of racing boats, including a slick, stylish Norwegian RIB, an aging cabin cruiser, a beautifully restored family boat and an out-and-out
speed machine. And he did it all without a plan...
Chasing The Horizon also features stunning pictures courtesy of Official Race Photographer Chris Davies. Hanging out of
a speeding helicopter, award-winning Chris managed to capture some of the most dramatic and evocative shots imaginable. To see more of his amazing work, and to discover why he was awarded a record five
medals by the UIM, visit
Over the course of the event the Author was extremely fortunate to experience what it's really like to thunder across the sea at
top speed for hour after painful hour in these five very different craft:
- a prototype Goldfish 36 RIB
- a Fairey Spearfish- the fastest Fairey in the world!
- a Buzzi-designed FB42
- a Botnia Targa 42- "the 4X4 of the sea"
- a 40 ft Brooke Marine cabin cruiser
Find out how they - and the author - fared in Chasing The Horizon, the only book written about this epic adventure!
